Because they (UA) are arrogant and think we are over-entitled. Also, the P's demands are the restoration of promises made to customers by previous managements over decades. To Smisek et. al., it may seem unreasonable.

It is good this happened the way it did because even if PMUA MM were grandfathered to Platinum, the current management could have changed the wording of the MM program (as they did) and slowly, over time, devalue the entire MM program. That would have been harder to challenge.
UA's actions were severe enough to have this happen.
