Upgrades and non-availability

Hi All

I booked some ET flights to MXP through the BA website during the sale at the start of the year. These seem to be selling class G or at least thats what MMB is telling me.

I'm flying in two weeks time, and currently within MMB it keeps offering me upgrade to CE (4 seats currently on the outbound flight) for 79GBP, which I'm happy to do as it guarantees me continued silver for next membership year . However if i try and accept the offer the website returns with with the rather useful "our systems aren't responding" message.

If i search the award availability on the website then it shows outbound availability on the outbound flight for CE.

Is this error due to the class of the original booking? Its frustrating if i cant upgrade these flights, considering it keeps offering me the option. Or is it worth ringing BAEC to see if this can be done?

cheers

ash.
