I agree with everything you posted except not all rooms at the Waterfront Marriott give you views of the water. Some of the rooms are "City View," rooms and look out at the hillside, Highway 99 (Viaduct), train tracks, etc.
As a gold, you might luck out and get a Bay View or Waterfront room. But depending on when you are going in May, an upgrade may not be available.
