Actually, they do not need to communicate anything except to advise us million-milers that they have decided to rescind the demotions they made to the million-mile program. We only want what was promised in writing. That is more than reasonable.
The lawsuit would end and a portion of UA management credibility might slowly return. However, the trust factor is yet another matter.
Admittedly, severe damage is done to their credibility. However, if they make amends and retract the "over entitled" remark and give back the breached benefits, the airline might not continue to slide negatively like it is now.
As to UA not saying anything for fear of an admission, that is not a very sound reason. The facts speak for themselves. There are specific written promises made to million-milers, and we are not getting those promises fulfilled. That is the admission.
The logical thing for UA to do is to honor what was promised.
The nagging question is, why is UA breaching the written promises? The only answer can be for purposes of protecting their huge egos or incompetence. I can think of no other reasons.
