I am now convinced there is no rhyme or reason to how AC determines what is a T or a T* fare! I have even heard about schedule changes where the fare basis was downgraded.
It's not just leisure destinations - but where Westjet flies (and to some extent PD). Since WS flies to LGA and PD to EWR, T fares are offered.

No surprise free standby for T+ and up is offered on this route also.
