Thanks for the info, that clears things up. Might as well just do a ticket award mixed with cash then.

I'm a bit lost on how to redeem best, especially after reading that using a OW award might be better.

I've always been with *A and redemptions have always been simple: I could choose any major city in Europe to SIN on LH and it would be the same number of miles with the extra connection as booking FRA-SIN non-stop.

Is this the case here? I need to get from SIN to AMS so there is no direct way anyway. So I'm fine redeeming to LHR and then purchasing a separate hop over to AMS separately. Or redeeming on Cathay and going SIN-HKG-AMS... but will this be effcient in terms of points required compared to going the BA way?
