Was there no such message when you upgraded your girlfriend?? As others have said, all you can do is keep checking (or ask BA if they would cancel your girlfriend's upgrade as a gesture of good will if you want to be sure to sit together without losing cash). Unfo there was no mention of number of seats and I tried to do both upgrades simultaneously in different browsers. I suppose I live and learn - I asked BA for the goodwill gesture but they said nothing they could do apart from put a note on my booking and link the two.
