Have you tried changing the FF number on united.com and see if it communicates?
Online selection used to work for me with UA ticket number but stopped working recently so now I end up calling. On an F suite flight last year I got a middle over the phone, but was able to change it to a window at check in (only 3 pax in F). Every time I called the agent asked if I was on award, and I think one of them said that available seats depend on how I book the ticket. But can't they tell from the booking code anyway??
