Grand Hyatt is currently undergoing renovations. I think they started with the wing that does not face Taipei 101. So when I was there in Nov I was in the part facing 101. Even the unrenovated room I was in seemed perfectly fine to me. Lots of wood. Not sure how far along the renovations are at this point. I was in a club room.
Since you have stayed there before you know the neighborhood. I discovered that you can actually cut through City Hall on the way to the MRT. Was nice when it was raining (as it did for pretty much my entire stay) to only have to run across the street to stay out of the rain.
I am tempted by the W for my next trip. Great location near the City Hall MRT. A little pricey though so now I am considering condo rentals instead.
