I've never had a problem "getting through the night" without a ciggie, and long haul flights, too. Ya just do it, although I do know a couple of people who can't make transcons because they'd have to get off in the middle for a smoke. I just can't allow myself to be that addicted.

That's a suggestion that might work, but the Nazis out there would never allow it.

Lord deliver me from people who are so concerned about my health they'd rather kill me than let me continue on with un-approved activities.
I'll go with the flow also, but only when I have to. And unlike Big Lar, I'm a heavier smoker then he, but I can withstand a TATL or transcon without lighting up. But look out as soon as I hit the exit doors from the airport, when the cigs come out and I join other puffers (usually in marked areas away from the doors) lighting up, and it's not for just one. Ever notice the clouds of smoke outside LAS after a few full flights have arrived? So yeah, we'll follow the rules in all cases and not smoke where it's not permitted, but don't cut me off completely just because some don't like it, as long as I'm not doing anything to directly impair your health.

And vis-a-vis smoking versus drinking and impaired drivers killing how many yearly....we don't drink, so I guess all the drinkers shouldn't be permitted to drink in their hotel rooms (oh, booze doesn't smell when it's spilled on the carpeting or furniture???) because it hasn't been cleaned properly and stinks up the room we're given? Or some drunken jerks running up and down the hallways yelling after partying half the night, then slamming their room doors at 3:38 AM as they stumble into their stupor filled sleep, all the while awakening the entire floor. Ever had that happen at a large expensive hotel where you were staying? Sound familiar? How 'bout some non-boozing hotels too? Pet rooms? We love animals and had our wonderful cat for 17 1/2 years. Some time ago, we were given a room that had been previously used by a pet owner, and the smell (stink) was still in it although it appeared to have been cleaned thoroughly. The stains on the carpet were still very obvious, to the point that we had to request a different room just to get some sleep without the stench.

Yes, we'd gladly pay a small extra fee to get a smoking room, but more often then not it's a much higher rate then the standard rooms shown, as most of the "regular" rooms are non-smoking, so we pay it.
