I was looking at Phuket as well, but I have been to so many beaches around the world (Australia, India, Hawaii, several all over the Caribbean, Miami, etc.) they all start to look the same. If I had longer to stay I'd definitely go to see a beach, but I am much more interested in the cultural aspect. Temples, floating markets, and some really great thai food!!!

Yes I did select my flight already but thank you for the suggestion. I was tying to avoid flying United. I fly United quite a bit and have elite status with them (though a lowly silver, I only travel for pleasure not work) but lately I have had some horrible experiences with United. My last two flights to FLL-EWR in first have been the worst flights I have had in a long time. The flight attendants were just rude and were fighting with each other. One agent actually said she couldn't do anything for me because I was just a silver. I rarely write complaint letters but the service was so abysmal that I wrote to United to tell them about my experience. To be fair, they did send me a voucher that far exceeded the cost of the flights but it did leave a sour taste in my mouth. It's not that I will never fly them again, but I did want to try another option. Contrary to all the Air Canada bashing I hear I've only ever had good experiences with them. I actually would have loved to take a Lufthansa flight but the fuel surcharges for their flights were exorbitant. I do have a bunch of mileage plus miles to use on another trip and they don't charge fuel surcharges so I will fly another set of airlines to compare on that trip. Even though I have selected my flights I am still looking around as the change fee is quite minimal so if a better option presents itself I will be happy to consider it.

Again thanks for your help. This was my first time posting a thread on this site. I've been a lurker for a while and finally decided to post. I'm glad I did :-)
