I can understand your desire to go to Thailand, but why Bangkok? Having been there and done that, i suggest you instead go to Phuket (beach) or Chiang Rai / Chiang Mai (mountains). if you look closely at these options, you might even avoid BKK altogether and connect in ICN or NRT or HKG and fly directly to your destination!
I don't find a lot to love about HKT any longer. It's kinda like Honolulu & Pattaya had a baby. CM is great for anybody. CR works if you're the active type. BTW, I love Bangkok for many reasons. It's not the cleanest or prettiest, but there's so much to do & the food rocks.
