To answer the OP, yes, it is something I consider, and one of the reasons I fly BA - it has an excellent safety record. Of course, the risk of anything happening on any major airline is very slim, but I am not as familiar as some other people here with the maintenance and training arrangements.
One of the best things I did was to watch the Channel 4 programme where they crashed a jet. The statistics they provided were quite reassuring - that even if a plane crashes, most people survive. Of course, many people just imagine a plane falling out of the sky and everyone dieing, which is exceptionally rare - much rarer than plane crashes themselves.
However, I won't fly Air France - I think they have a questionable safety record. I was particularly unimpressed by the way that they managed to ditch an A330 into the ocean killing everyone in 2009. Yes, it was caused by a technical error, but the description of the flight crew's behaviour that I saw didn't exactly inspire confidence.
