I may have spoken too soon. When I called to confirm my upgrade (after making it off the waiting list) the agent said that he had some technical issues and I should call back. I didn't think anything of it -- and I posted my previous entry prior to calling back.
When I called back later, I found out that somehow when they cleared me off the wait list they changed the departure date of my flight (to a day later) and deleted my original departure date. I have NO CLUE how this happened.
So, I'm now working with them to get the date changed back and then they'll clear the upgrade. I was transferred to their main Customer Service area -- where they had to file an incident report.
They were very apologetic when it became clear that this was their error -- I had to point out that I couldn't have booked a flight to arrive in IST that arrives AFTER my connecting flight

The agent even laughed when I pointed this out and she understood that one of their agents made a mistake.
I have faith that they'll sort this all out -- but, maybe TK should reconsider the idea of a waiting list if it's going to cause these types of problems.
