I've done it too, just get the temp card's PIN online and you're fine. Once you get the permanent card the PIN changes though.
I think the pin and card number actually change at some point before you get your permanent card in the mail. It took about 2 weeks for me, and my temp card stopped working about a week earlier. So, don't dilly dally.
