Unhappy Computer error on United.com miles booking

I reserved an international ticket on United.com today with miles. I input my first, middle and last names correctly, and the first confirmation email I received has them correctly. However, when I received the e-ticket, it had my last name correct but my first name was firstname+middleinitial all together, and there was no middle name. I called in to ask what was going on, and I was told that I had input the name wrong and the only thing they could do is redeposit the miles since they can't correct the name on a ticket. They said since there wasn't anymore availability on one of the flights that they couldn't even rebook it for me. Of course I didn't accept that and I'm not trying to figure out how to proceed.

Is this a common error on United.com? How can this kind of issue be resolved?
