Actually Qatar Airways and the Doha Airport are under the same company.

I know exactly what you are talking and have experinced this myself as I fly at least twice a year to the U.S. from Doha.

I have learned anything associated with the Qatar Airways company is all about expectation management. If I expect the worse than they have a better change of exceeding my expectations.

THe only way I know of avoid many of the potential issues/problems you may encounter with flying with QR is by flying business/frist class. HOwever, this is not an option for many of us flying on our own dime and not company dime.
