I returned a car to SLC yesterday and couldn't figure out why my total was not as quoted upon reservation. The agent hemmed and hawed and finally acknowledged the "Trip Saver." She explained that it is for when you lose your keys or have tire damage. I couldn't help but laugh. I think I said "that's cute." She said "well it is if you lose your keys."

Anyhow, I let her know that she could remove that fee or I'd dispute the whole charge with my credit card company. She removed it. I got the sense that they'd been through this before.

If I'd been in a pissier mood, I'd have concocted a reason to get the keys back from them and then I'd explain (with the keys in my hand) that I'd lost the keys and they could have a nice day as I walked off with them.
