Alliances are marketing agreements. For baggage, the airlines should have an interline agreement. The fact that it's a separate ticket may or may not make a difference. Many airlines will check baggage through even with separate tickets. I would suggest calling Asiana although of course they could give you the wrong information.

So on the assumption that I
cannot check the bag through OZ to CX, and I have to pick up my bag in HKG, then how will the HKG connection process work on 2 separate tickets? Is there a CX transfer desk after I pick up my bags so I don't have to exit/re-clear security? 2h10m connection time enough? Always good to contingency plan.
