Do you still need to identify your bags on video? If so, it will still take forever, and the only thing you save is the need to physically haul your bags. Speaking for connections at YVR. . . . . yes you do have to id your bags but the bar codes on bags/boarding card ensure the tv screen pictures of "your" bags come up very quickly. For my money the id system is good in that you have some comfort that your bags have transitioned to your US flight with you !.
