Certainly. I guess the state-of-mind adjustment for me is that supporting local dealers, in anticipation of extra service, may not be worth it in the new business climate.

I learned this lesson first in gardening. I bought a sprinkler from a local gardening shop of a rather premium kind, with the idea of supporting a local business and just in case I needed service (it would have cost about 25% less online). Well, it did break and I took it back to the store. To my surprise, they informed me that the store does not warrant anything itself and for manufacturer's warranty I should contact the manufacturer directly. An 800 number is all I got from them.

This is the second time I am learning the same lesson. I probably did pay a little extra, agin to support a local business and for any service that may be needed later on, but when it was needed, I was no different from anybody who might have bought from some online outfit or even a used bag on eBay. The store had absolutely no regard for the receipt in my hand showing that I had bought it new and from them.
