I have the exact same message on my ORD-AMS and LHR-IAH flights coming up. Both had to be done over the phone because I had to make a change to the ticket. Before I made the change I had the other indicator that I was waitlisted.
I don't care what it looks like so long as I clear into "R" if it opens up. Not likely to open on the AMS flight but should open on the LHR flight.
