How about if someone attempts to open a door in-flight? Or attempts to get into the flight deck?
Don't bother justifying your procedures; there're clearly plenty of cases where an aircrew should be empowered to restrain a passenger to protect the safety of other passengers and the aircraft.

1Newflyer's frustration. Keeping passengers in the dark, unfed and essentially strapped into their seats for hours on end while on the ground is not something I'd like to experience. And, honestly, I doubt I'd react well to such a situation, either.
