BA and UA were close partners back in the late 1980s. In 1989 BA Shareholders approved a 15% stake in UA but the bid was withdrawn when other partners in the planned buy-out failed to raise financing. The deal unravelled very quickly due to UA over extending itself and its stock hit junk status.
