In the days when I actively participated in hobbies requiring warranty work, mainly audio and photography, there seemed to be a tacit understanding that authorized dealers charged you premium prices for premium brands, but then provided certain services in return. Mediating warranty repair without extra charge was one of those.
As you say, those days may be long gone.
Now that I think about it, those days no store I recall charged for shopping bags either.
I can certainly accept the march of time. Just wanted to know if this is a widespread practice being seen by everybody.
