uh huh...

Anyone ever read Dickens? There's a great character in Martin Chuzzlewit, an American Senator, Elijah Pogram, who makes a point to be disgusting and rude because as an american it's PART OF OUR INSTITUTIONS AND WE HAS NO TIME FOR FORMS AND POLITE NICENESS.

Ridiculous.

Martin warns that if you ignore the little decencies as a matter of course, you'll ignore the larger ones as well out of stubbornness.
