If it were like cruises, flights with open seats should get real cheap in the last few days or hours before the flight. However, it seems they would rather see them empty that try to sell a few impulse seats.
The legacy airlines do this to a limited extent with their last minute weekend fare sales. I'm assuming that most of the specials are on flights with lighter loads.
