Our biggest perk on southwest was that no one wanted to take a seat next to a kid so we ended up with an empty seat while the plane was nearly full.

Many other airlines had small toys, coloring books, matching games, stickers etc... less so in us but we got a pin from united once...

The captain on my last Jetblue flight came out and handed my son a set of wings. We were waiting for everyone to disembark, he saw us, went back into the cockpit and came out with the wings. I agree it's not much of a perk if you have to repeatedly ask for it.
Son was also given a small goodie bag by SAA. Granted it was international longhaul.
The pins that both of you got sound awesome. I would love to get a real set of wings but FAs don't seem very willing to part with them!
I disagree in your thoughts that this certificate is not a perk. I definitely feel that is a perk. The thing is that Southwest seems to be phasing it out. The certificate is a known ttem among the employees, they just seemed to be getting very hard to come by at this point.
