The paying passenger and free companion have to be priced together on the same reservation. This means that you really have the best result if you make the initial booking for two people and state at that time you'll be using a coupon. If you have an existing paid reservation (for one person) and want to add a second person to it afterward, the agent will have to make a new booking with the now prevailing price for the paying customer.
