Actually, Amtrak does serve JFK. On the Amtrak website, enter JFK as the origin and HFD as the destination, and you'll see the available connecting service.
Actually, Amtrak DOES NOT serve JFK (verified at Amtrak.com). You take the Air Train from JFK to Jamaica station and then either the LIRR or subway to Penn Station. LIRR is quickest (schedule permitting), subway is cheapest.
Huh! This must be a fairly recent development. I have previously been able to price Amtrak trips to/from JFK on amtrak.com. (Service between JFK and NYP was provided by a bus.)
