Furthermore, the whole point of SWUs is to give flyers a better chance at getting upgrades on flights where it is otherwise difficult or not possible to get a complimentary upgrade.
I am booked on a LAX-JFK redeye next week on an I fare. JFK-SFO+ SMF-LAX-JFK with the last leg in booked in D, $910 all in.
