From our point of view it looks like something (many things?) is broken at Air Canada, but maybe not from their point of view. They're making decent money now, so, from the bean counter point of view all is working well.
Maybe they don't really need to have all the FF buying cheaper fares and then occupy a more expensive seat.
I have only been flying with AC since the fall of 2008, spent more than 500k with them between then and now, I have more than 1.5m aeropesos in my account with little use for them.
Mid-year last year I decided that AC no longer meets my travel style and have decided to take my money elsewhere.
I suspect this is what you're really referring to as well when you say AC is broken - but just don't want to fly a different airline(?)
There's a sad truth to business that many customers do not like to acknowledge - but businesses need to find a ways dispose of their worst customers - no customer wants to be told that they're considered to be a bad customer though.
The upside is one companies bad customer is another companies good customer.
