IME - They request the reference number on your piece of luggage. I assume they verify that it's genuine. Then they will confirm the repair under / not under warranty.
All Rimowa luggage products are stamped with an Idenfitication or reference number. This includes the Salsa, Porsche, LH, and other polycarbonate items, too.
If you are posting your Rimowa item for repair, I might suggest that you first send an email with a photo attachment of the damaged item, and the stamped serial Nr. I have posted Rimowa attache cases in for adjustment repairs years ago, well out of warrranty, and the email and photos expedited everything. I paid yes, but the turn around was only one week.
