Did you calculate it by Google Maps as a driving instruction or as the bird flies? I believe Emirates use their distance as a direct route rather than by road. If it is only 4km over I assume it will be a lot shorter directly. Also they need to have some limit. If they made it 50km, people would complain not allowing 54km is 'stingy'.
