This event sounds terrible, but I'm not sure what more you want. Seems like they are relatively generous here. Your tickets were refunded (presumably allowing you to buy a new ticket later) and you are being given $1000 for your troubles.

Again, not saying that you didn't get screwed here, but I'm not sure what more DL should be giving you.
