To be fair, it is only recently that QF stopped using the weight system, so it is back to how it used to be. Given that it is just flipping back ( although with an extra 7Kg allowance to how it used to be ) , it doesn't seem such a big change to me

Unfortunately for passengers, but fortunately for both the remaining shareholders QF is a business and not a "not-for-profit" organisation. The price is based , I think, on EK's fees
At $630, it may well be better to choose another airline. I think that this does only affect a small group of passengers. Not that many people I posit are buying extra bags
Fortunately these days allowances are not identical across airlines
QF used to allow 20Kg economy, 30Kg business, 40 Kg 1st , so it is an improvement from then
