Just after immigration for connecting passengers in BKK at the back before the door to security is a customs scanner for carry-on bags. In roughly 30 CIQ connections I have only ever seen this manned once.

Presumably they now rely on airport security to deter smuggling, you know your carry-on will be scanned.

I never quite understand this system of security when you have alighted one plane before getting on another one. Where did you get the bomb? From duty free on the first plane? And they will take a bottle of water off you but let you take a duty free bottle of highly inflammable liquid through.

I am straying off topic but I will carry-on (oh dear!): I would close down 90% of airport security tomorrow, aircraft cockpits are now secure and if all these terrorists did actually exist why are n't they blowing upbits of railway line or merely throwing steel sections across them somewhere on the worlds thousands of miles of unsecured high speed railways.
