Agree with prior comments. Cebu Pacific was awesome to fly on - a good mix of fun and competency for a LCC. Also keep in mind that ANA is the only *A carrier that operates into one of MNL's two non-horrendous terminals (T1), where all foreign carriers (save ANA) fly to/from. So if everything else becomes equal and you need to fly in on *A and transit in MNL, I'd suggest ANA out of NRT over other options and absolutely over UA via HNL and GUM.
I did the GUM, HNL routing last fall and, as eluded to, it is long and not ideal. A relatively poor use of upgrade instruments, in my mind, as you are assured old-school 777s for the very long GUM-HNL and a domestic pmCO 737 GUM-MNL.
Did I mention how bad MNL T1 is???? Don't underestimate what you read here about it. I liked Manila as a city and don't like to rag on cities but MNL T1 is rightly regarded as badly as it is here on FT. That said, T2 and T3 are not bad in the least. I can't speak to connecting within one of them and connecting between T2 and T3 (or between either and T1 for that matter) is a tough trek but the terminals themselves are just fine.
Let us know what you decide. Good luck and enjoy the Philippines - a beautiful country.
