Freecycle is a wonderful thing. It is amazing what ancient crap Freecyclers will gleefully take off your hands. I unloaded a circa-1984 HP scientific calculator last year, among many other things. It took less than 24 hours.
I feel bad throwing still-functional things away. For the non-functional electronics, we keep them in a bag until the annual county recycling day, when they accept things like half-empty cans of paint, used motor oil, dead batteries, old electronics, etc.
