You could always get the AA Five Star service for him at JFK. They will take great care of him despite any language barrier, and might even have an agent that speaks his language directly.
Interesting service.... However, it doesn't seem to cover Toronto, and it probably doesn't cover partner airlines... Plus, for the $200 they charge (not sure if its $200 each leg or $200 each return trip), I would be better off paying $1350 for a direct Air-Canada YYZ-HKG flight for the dates I want.
