Although fares and service might differ between airlines, I wouldn't expect United or anyone else to be less strict about check-in times. Of course, a lot of it depends on the agent at check-in, whether EK, UA, or anyone else, but there's not a whole lot you can do about it when the times and rules are pretty clearly stated.
