Probably 75% of my rentals are local, taken out for mileage deferral purposes only. Especially with the excellent weekend rates usually available for me it makes economic sense to drive a National (or Hertz) car rather than rack up the miles on my new one. Put 600 miles on a Suburban this weekend that cost $24 a/i for Thursday-Sunday (of course, gas not included!!) Something to think about, anyways.
