Does anyone have any idea how the Suite Nights award is actually awarded? From my understanding the hotels dont do anything with it until 5 nights before the stay. At that point if they have rooms available for the award they issue the upgrade. I checked online and the Key West Westin has rooms available for sale at the Suite Night award level that I requested and it is less than 5 nights out. I called the hotel and was told that they dont issue those rooms to awards just in case someone comes in off the street or there is a last minute reservation for the $700+/night rooms so the chances are that I wouldnt get it even though they arent sold out of them.
How does that provide a Platinum with ANY additional benefit value? so if it is off season and the hotel is empty i can have it? That is a normal platinum benefit anyway. Can someone please add some clarity to this? SPG just dropped a bit in my book.

I can understand properties not wanting to give away their expensive rooms if they feel they can sell them, but it does fly in the face of the benefit. Conflicting goals are always tough to mitigate.
