I know that for me, personally, I haven't used a paid WiFi connection in years. When I first started tethering on 3G the connection speeds were usually comparable to the WiFi offerings at the airport. Now, with 4G phones, my phone usually knocks the airport WiFi right out of the water - and is often more reliable. Most months I still have 5Gb left on my monthly data allowance.
