There is likely to be a re-price, but it probably won't matter because when you are up in B fare territory the prices rarely change. Re-prices usually hurt when people bought very cheap fares way ahead of time and the cheap fare buckets are no longer available.
Some of the highest fare buckets have no change fee or refund fee. So these items together mean you may not have to pay anything. But again check the fare rules.
The thing I'd be more concerned about is upgrade inventory. You said you wanted to get an upgradable fare so whatever date you want to change to may or may not have upgrade bucket availability. You could be getting a very expensive fare that you won't be able to upgrade.
Thanks for your response. The fare rules state changes permitted, so it should be change-able with no cost except possibly do to fares having moved up at the time of re-pricing (if re-pricing is necessary). Good point about the general stability of B fares.
U/G inventory is my focus. I'm trying to grab it on the outbound before it vanishes. I've got some minor flexibility on the return. My plan would be to find Z inventory prior to doing the change to my "real" return date.
Additional input is welcome.
