1. Fire your TA. He should know that there are no seat assignments on the Shuttle until check-in.

The key here is 2. There are no advance seat assignments on US shuttle, at least theoretically, so you want to be the first person to check in at T-24. Plus, they'll usually offer a $50 upgrade to first class, which is a terrible deal but . . . I can't help myself.
