I would suggest picking a major departure city from the US rather than "any city" because QF will hammer you on points for the connection from the "any city" to the departure city. So, LAX, DFW, ORD (can be surprisingly good), JFK are all usually good places to search from as they have OW flights departing from them for DOH & BAH, etc.
Points might actually be the same depending on the routing and distances. Taxes and fees will differ.
