I have a friend who has me on his nominee list and has already sponsored a spot on the upgrade list for the my flight on the 11th. However, if I was going to take up the above poster on his generous offer, I would have to be deactivated from my friend's list before my actual flight to try for the upgrade on the way home. Would this result in me being removed from the waitlist on my outbound flight?

Someone with actual experience can weigh in here, but unfortunately I think that you can only be a nominee on one person's list (unless you're a travelling companion on the same PNR). So, if your friend has already added you to his nominee list for your YVR-YYZ flight, then I won't be able to add you as one of my nominees.
