on my first Dec MR I got into OAK at 145pm; SJC-LAX flight was at 740pm

took the BART shuttle bus (15 min, $3 cash) to the Coliseum station, then the BART train to Millbrae (approx 1 hr, $5; changed trains at the aboveground West Oakland station rather than in the tunnels in SF because it was a nice day)

I actually skipped one Caltrain trip in Millbrae because I figured that a neighborhood restaurant would be better/cheaper than the food options at SJC

Caltrain (approx 1 hr, $7) to Santa Clara, shuttle bus (10 min, free) to SJC
