In my case the problem with QF was that they would not credit at the upgraded cabin level even though it was paid for in cash because it was their policy not to credit promotional upgrade at the new cabin (their words - not sure if such a policy exists).
I was told the same line about promotional upgrades not being recognised. But I argued it was a fare upgrade to a higher fare class and eventually had it credited.

In my view it is not worth crediting them to Qantas if you can credit them to BA.
If you want to spread the status to QF, it's better to use something like BUD/WAW where QF SC is 60 when BA is 40 rather than the somewhat unpredictable airport upgrade.
I agree, for me it was for a flight a flight just over 600mi so credits 120 SCs return on QF compared to 80 TP's, and I needed exactly 120 SCs to requalify for QF WP!
